Because Sustainable Leadership Starts From Within

Leading others, holding complexity, and carrying responsibility requires more than competence alone. Over time, even skilled and thoughtful professionals can lose internal clarity under sustained pressure.

Head and Heart Institute exists to address that erosion through capacity-based leadership education and clinical training grounded in internal alignment.

Meet the Founder

rachel pires head and heart

Rachel Pires is the founder of Head and Heart Institute and the creator of the Heal the Healer™ Framework.

Her work sits at the intersection of psychotherapy, trauma-attuned care, somatic practice, EMDR, and leadership development. Across nearly two decades of clinical and leadership experience, a consistent pattern emerged: capable professionals often lose coherence not because of pathology or lack of skill, but because responsibility outpaces internal capacity.

Early in her career as a psychotherapist, Rachel worked closely with individuals navigating trauma, emotional intensity, and relational complexity. Over time, that lens widened. The same internal patterns she observed in clients appeared in clinicians, leaders, and helpers themselves—people who were highly skilled, deeply committed, and relied upon by others, yet increasingly operating from strain, overextension, or self-override.

Rather than interpreting this as burnout alone, Rachel came to understand it as a capacity issue. When internal alignment cannot keep pace with external responsibility, even the most capable professionals lose access to presence, clarity, and choice.

This insight became the foundation of her work.

Rachel’s work is informed by experience across clinical practice, leadership, and education, including:

✓ Founder & CEO of a private practice (2012–present)

✓ Extensive trauma-focused clinical experience

✓ Executive and senior leadership in nonprofit and mission-driven organizations

✓ EMDRIA Consultant and Certified EMDR Therapist

✓ Clinical supervision for licensure and professional development

✓ Somatic and embodiment-based practices (yoga, sound, breath)

✓ Retreat, mastermind, and experiential group facilitation

Her approach is known for clarity, steadiness, and the ability to hold complexity without collapse or overdirection.

The Origin of the Heal the Healer™ Framework

clinical somatic education

Over years of clinical practice, leadership roles, and group facilitation, Rachel developed the Heal the Healer™ Framework as a structured, capacity-based approach to internal alignment.

The framework integrates:

✓ Cognitive clarity and meaning-making

✓ Somatic awareness and nervous system capacity

✓ Emotional presence and relational intelligence

Rather than focusing on performance, productivity, or symptom reduction, the Heal the Healer™ Framework addresses how responsibility is held internally: how decisions are made, how boundaries are maintained, and how coherence is restored when strain arises.

The framework now serves as the foundation for all Head and Heart Institute offerings, including leadership education, retreats, workshops, and advanced EMDR consultation.

Why Head and Heart Institute

Supporting Those Who Hold Responsibility for Others

For clinicians and leaders who hold responsibility for others, steadiness is often expected without consideration for internal cost. Over time, this creates a quiet split between external competence and internal experience.

Head and Heart Institute was created in response to that split.

Sustainable leadership is not built through effort or resilience alone. It is built through internal alignment that allows responsibility to be carried without self-override. When cognitive clarity, somatic awareness, and emotional capacity function together, leadership becomes steadier, more ethical, and more sustainable over time.

This institute exists to support that integration.

How the Work is Held

Across all offerings, the emphasis remains the same: internal coherence, ethical presence, and sustained capacity for those who hold responsibility.

Head and Heart Institute offerings are intentionally designed as educational, experiential, and capacity-based containers.

The work lives in:

Heal the Healer Mastermind: Long-form leadership formation

Heal the Healer Retreats: Immersive embodiment and integration

Workshops and Alignment Labs: Focused experiential learning

EMDR Mastery: Advanced clinical consultation and certification support

This work is not psychotherapy. It is not coaching. It is leadership and clinical education grounded in embodied alignment.
